Ideating The Project – Instagram Business to Vlogger on YouTube and TikTok!

What a whirlwind! My Digital Artefact has definitely seen many conceptual changes. At the beginning I was ideating my artefact to be an Instagram business where I would design bespoke artwork illustrations and sell them beautifully framed to clients. However, everything changed when I posted my Pitch video on YouTube…

As I was filming my ‘First Vlog’, essentially I was explaining what I was ideating, being the artwork illustrations and establishing my small design business on the social media platform Instagram. However, being in front of the camera whilst filming my pitch, I fell in love with the idea of presenting in front of a camera, at the time I was all over the place, I didn’t really have a set in stone ideated concept for achieving my Digital Artefact. Yes, I love doing digital illustrations for clients, and my Instagram is well suited for marketing that side hustle of mine, but I wanted to do more, I wanted to be more, and to create more, where there was no limitations to what I could do. Hence why I fell in love with the concept of vlogging and creating video content for people, doing the things that I love.

I like to think that I have a big personality, and therefore I believe my artefact needs to revolve around me and who I am. The best part about vlogging is that I don’t need to be anything more than myself. Whether or not viewers watch my content or not, being able to record myself overtime is a fantastic way of self development and expression. From the small amount of content that I have already published on my YouTube channel and my TikTok page, I also noticed that my confidence has improved remarkably. Simply just recording my day to day activities, I have received small recognition, positive feedback, and likes/thumbs up’s on my videos, which then boosts my need to create more and more content on my dominant platforms (TikTok & YouTube).

TWITTER THO?

I am a huge Twitter twit. I love twitter a lot, using twitter has given me the ability to be able to promote blog stories, news articles, and most importantly my digital artefact links. I already have an established following on Twitter, which has come in great handy when promoting my newly released content, tweeting reaches a large number of my followers quickly. It is easy for me to make announcements for upcoming content, share and distribute content thats been published, create polls for my followers, that also contribute to content ideas. This is an example of a poll I created on twitter, where I shared four ideas of a video concept. Twitter Polls are an easy way to interact with your audience, get creative, and understand people’s opinions. When the poll is over, all participants receive a push notification as well, which helps to bring them back to your content.

I held the poll up for 24 hours until the voting time was over, and as you can see, building LEGO was the #winner. So I got straight to work and hopped on to Amazon to order an awesome Star Wars LEGO, Boba-Fett Helmet. Now, LEGO kits aren’t necessarily cheap, but the beauty of this is, I’m not funding entertainment out of my pocket for the sake of purely pleasing an audience, building LEGO is a general hobby of mine and I’m constantly buying LEGO to build, and now that I am establishing a digital artefact, It now gives me the opportunity to share my interests and hobbies as a form of content for viewers entertainment. It’s a win, win for the viewers and I.

This is a little snippet of my upcoming YouTube video that I am currently working on, and about to finish editing Part 1 of the LEGO build series I’m doing. The series will consist of 5 episodes, because there are 5 sections to this build – this is fantastic, because the build of this kit is constructed into 5 stages, I was able to easily ideate a series concept to my channel, which has given me the ability to spread and create content consistently over a period of time. Thank you LEGO!

WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH TIKTOK THEN?

TikTok is an awesome platform. TikTok has given me the ability to make videos easily – quick and easy content. My YouTube channel has a much more professional persona and the editing time takes a bit longer until it’s ready to be published.

I figured, why not utilise TikTok as another video making platform, where I can make quick and easy skits whilst still developing professional content for my YouTube channel. By utilising TikTok as another artefact, it has given me more opportunity to spread my online presence and gain viewers as.

This was a tweet I posted, and as you can see, the lovely @AshleighSWright replied to my post and gave me the inspiration to create the LEGO building series.

Using TikTok as a secondary platform has successfully boosted my online presence and my confidence to making media. I am extremely proud of all the work I have done so far, and there is just so much more content I am super excited to make.

I realised now that I didn’t want to limit my online presence to just one particular style of content creation, I wanted it to be fluid, diverse and new every time. Creating videos gives me that oppurtunity and I cant wait to see what the future holds.
